The four-step proof stack

A fast, repeatable way to move from ‘this looks rare’ to a defensible card identity.

1. Match the official checklist.

Confirm year, product, insert name, subject and code against a manufacturer checklist. This proves that the card identity exists; it does not prove the card in hand is a specific parallel.

2. Read the physical evidence.

Use the front design, back code, color treatment, serial stamp and format markers. If those signals disagree with the listing title, trust the card—not the title.

3. Attach the odds to the SKU.

Pack odds belong to a format: Hobby, Jumbo, Value, Mega or another SKU. Never carry one format’s odds over to the entire release.

4. Build a condition-matched comp set.

Separate raw from graded and keep each sale date visible. Guide estimates can orient the search; exact completed sales are the evidence layer.
