1. Match the official checklist.
Confirm year, product, insert name, subject and code against a manufacturer checklist. This proves that the card identity exists; it does not prove the card in hand is a specific parallel.
2. Inspect the front and back.
Check the design, back code, color, serial stamp and format markers. If the listing title conflicts with what the card shows, resolve the discrepancy before buying.
3. Check the odds for the pack format.
Hobby, Jumbo, Value, Mega and other formats can have different pack odds. Use the odds for the format in question; one format’s rate does not apply to the entire release.
4. Compare sales in the same condition.
Keep raw and graded sales separate, and check the date of each transaction. Use guide estimates as a starting point, then inspect completed sales that match the card and its condition.
