THE SHORT ANSWER
How do I check a card’s value?
Estimate a sports card’s value from recent completed sales of the exact year, product, insert, card number and parallel in comparable condition. Check both eBay Sold and 130point, verify the realized amount, remove duplicate transactions and keep raw cards separate from graded copies. Asking prices alone cannot establish value.
A missing guide is a useful result when the evidence is too thin. It is not a reason to turn an asking price into a valuation.
01 · FROM IDENTITY TO EVIDENCE
Five checks before a price.
- 01
Identify the card
Record the year, manufacturer, product, insert, card number, subject, parallel and serial tier. Match the front and back to the checklist. A similar design is not the same card.
- 02
Search both sources
Run eBay Sold and 130point searches for that identity. Start with year, product, subject, insert and card number; inspect variants before broadening. Save the query, filters, date and actual coverage.
- 03
Inspect each transaction
Record the sale date, realized amount, currency, condition and source link. Deduplicate the same transaction across sources. A reported sale, a hidden offer and a verified amount are different evidence states.
- 04
Compare like with like
Keep raw, PSA, BGS and other grades separate. Within raw, distinguish near-mint, Excellent, damaged and unknown condition. Preserve shipping and buyer premiums as separate price-basis fields.
- 05
State the limits
Show the number and dates of comparable sales alongside a range or median. PULLED. requires at least three condition-comparable exact recent raw sales before considering a guide. Sparse evidence stays visible.
02 · COMMON QUESTIONS
What the evidence means.
Answers apply to the research method, not a new valuation of any particular card. Can I use an asking price to value my card?
An active asking price shows available supply and the seller’s expectation. It is not evidence that a buyer paid that amount. Keep asks, bids, ended unsold listings and completed sales separate.
LINK TO THIS ANSWER ↗What if an eBay Best Offer price is hidden?
Record the sale observation separately from its price. Use an inspectable transaction that shows the accepted amount, including an exact 130point result when available. Do not substitute the crossed-out asking price. If the realized amount cannot be inspected, leave it unverified.
LINK TO THIS ANSWER ↗How many sold comps do I need?
PULLED. uses three exact, condition-comparable raw completed sales within 180 days as a minimum depth gate. Three is an editorial threshold, not a statistical guarantee or proof of a good purchase. Review dispersion, recency, condition and total buyer cost even when the threshold is met.
LINK TO THIS ANSWER ↗Does NO GUIDE mean no sales exist?
No. A card may have observed sales, undisclosed prices, unverified reports, old transactions or condition mismatches while still having no eligible guide. A blocked or partial source search is incomplete research, not evidence of zero sales.
LINK TO THIS ANSWER ↗Can I use PSA 10 sales to price a raw card?
Keep them in separate samples. A raw card has unverified grading potential; grading cost, turnaround, condition and the chance of receiving a particular grade remain uncertain. Do not borrow slab sales to complete a raw price guide.
LINK TO THIS ANSWER ↗Is the sale price the same as my buying or selling budget?
No. Compare the same currency and price basis. A buyer’s total may include shipping, tax, import charges and auction premiums. A seller’s net proceeds subtract fees and other costs. A historical sale neither guarantees a future price nor shows how quickly another copy will sell.
