The verified trail begins in 2024/25.

The earliest official Rainbow Flick wave PULLED. could verify sits in Topps’ 2024/25 soccer team sets. Barcelona presented the move with a rainbow holographic treatment in November 2024; Liverpool, Manchester City and Argentina carried the idea into their own club-and-country products. This is the documented starting point for this report—not a claim that no earlier promotional or regional card exists.

The rainbow flick gave the insert its shape.

In a rainbow flick, the ball travels up and over a defender. Topps echoes that movement with curved bands of color around an action photograph. The design carries a recognizable football reference across club, country and Merlin cards.

Barcelona’s checklist spans Messi, Yamal and earlier greats.

The 30-card Barcelona checklist includes Lionel Messi RF-13 and Lamine Yamal RF-21 alongside Ronaldo RF-18, Ronaldinho RF-2, Xavi RF-9 and Andrés Iniesta RF-3. It brings several generations of the club into the same design, from Ronaldinho’s improvisation to Xavi and Iniesta’s control. These six cards still need separate price records; sharing a club and insert does not make them comparable sales.

Argentina supplies the missing Messi comp.

The 2024/25 Argentina Team Set numbers Rainbow Flick as the final 30 cards of its 100-card sequence, so Messi is #90—not RF-90. One exact raw eBay sale surfaced through Sports Card Investor at $173 on May 24, 2025. That is real evidence, but it is still only one sale and it is more than a year old. PULLED. scores the record 3/5: identity, exact photo and raw guide are present; sale depth and freshness are not.

Argentina returned with a new code system.

The 2026 Argentina Team Set starts a separate 25-card Rainbow Flick checklist at RF-1. Alexis Mac Allister RF-3 produced an exact $40 raw sale on June 28, 2026. Lionel Messi is RF-10 in this release, which means a 2024/25 Messi #90 sale cannot be used to value the 2026 card. The player, country and insert name match; the release and identifier do not.

Merlin introduced RB codes and Value-exclusive cards.

The 2026 Topps Merlin Premier League release has a 30-card Rainbow Flick checklist exclusive to Value packs, using RB codes. The base insert falls at 1:280 Value packs, and the official checklist includes Black, Red and Superfractor parallels. Keep those cards separate from RF-coded Barcelona, Real Madrid and Argentina team-set editions when comparing prices, even if the player is the same.

The new Merlin sales widen the curve.

Gabriel Martinelli RB-5 sold for $400 on July 10, but that card is the Red /5 parallel and must stay out of the base-RB-5 comp set. Wilfried Gnonto RB-12 has three raw sales at $90, $90 and $95; Harry Kane RB-21 has one at $89. Sergio Agüero RB-26 is the deepest newly added name, with three exact raw sales from $25 to $59.99. Max Dowman still leads the surfaced base-card guide at $180.67.

Evidence can improve while price stays low.

Agüero and Gnonto earn 5/5 evidence scores because they pair exact photos and guides with three fresh matched sales. Kane, Mac Allister and Martinelli score 4/5 because each has only one surfaced sale. The older one-sale Messi record scores 3/5. Meanwhile the six 2024/25 Barcelona icons remain 1/5 RESEARCH OPEN. A score measures how well the record is supported—not how famous, scarce or expensive the card is.

Compare Rainbow Flick cards within their own release.

Rainbow Flick is recognizable across products, but the cards differ by release, number or RF/RB code, player, parallel and condition. Use those details to select comparable sales, then judge the asking price against demand and the available transaction history. The colorful design and case-hit description alone do not establish value.
